Less than a month into his second term, Donald Trump is already facing potential impeachment. Texas Representative Al Green announced he is filing articles of impeachment after Trump suggested the U.S. should “take over” Gaza.

During a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said the U.S. would “own” Gaza and resettle Palestinians in neighboring countries. He claimed this would bring “stability” to the region and create jobs, but critics called it “ethnic cleansing by another name.”

Green condemned Trump’s proposal, calling it a “dastardly deed” and invoking Martin Luther King Jr. He criticized Netanyahu for standing by while Trump made the remarks, arguing that injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the U.S.

If the articles of impeachment move forward, the House of Representatives would vote on whether to impeach Trump, followed by a trial in the Senate. However, Democratic leaders have indicated impeachment is not currently a priority, making it unlikely to succeed.

This isn’t Green’s first attempt to impeach Trump—he previously filed multiple efforts during Trump’s first term. Trump was impeached twice before but was never removed from office. Whether this latest attempt gains traction remains to be seen.
