Law enforcement confirmed Baena was found at his Los Angeles-area home on Friday morning and pronounced dead at the scene, with his death ruled a suicide. The discovery was made by an assistant, leading to an investigation by police and fire responders.

Baena, a graduate of New York University, began his career working with renowned directors like Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell, co-writing screenplays such as I Heart Huckabees. He later pursued directing, creating films like Life After Beth (2014), The Little Hours (2017), and Horse Girl (2020). His projects often featured his wife, Aubrey Plaza, whom he married in 2021 after nearly a decade of dating.
