Michael Newman, known for his role on Baywatch, has tragically passed away at the age of 68. Newman, who played a lifeguard on the iconic series alongside stars like Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff, died on October 20 due to heart complications. The news was confirmed by Newman’s close friend Matt Felker, who directed the Hulu docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun. Felker shared that Newman was surrounded by family and friends during his final moments.

Newman had battled Parkinson’s disease for 18 years, having been diagnosed at the age of 50 in 2006. In his later years, he dedicated his efforts to raising awareness and funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. During a candid interview this past August, Newman expressed how the terminal illness had significantly changed his life. Despite the challenges, he shared that he was cherishing the time spent with his family and friends, and taking life seriously.

In addition to his acting career, Newman was the only actual lifeguard in the Baywatch cast. Outside of Hollywood, he worked as a firefighter, balancing a full-time career while appearing on the show. After the series ended in 2001, he returned to firefighting until he retired 25 years later.
