Beyoncé has made history again, leading the 2025 Grammy nominations with 11 nods, including for her genre-blending album Cowboy Carter in Album of the Year, a category she’s never won. Competing in categories as diverse as country and melodic rap, her nominations reflect an expanded artistic range, following her previous wins in dance/electronic categories for Renaissance. Other top contenders include Taylor Swift, who received six nominations for The Tortured Poets Department, and Kendrick Lamar, whose Drake diss track, “Not Like Us,” is nominated for Record and Song of the Year.
Swift and Billie Eilish, both multiple Grammy winners, are also back with nods for Record, Song, and Album of the Year. In addition to established artists, fresh talents like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan secured their first nominations in major categories such as Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, marking a year that highlights both Grammy mainstays and rising stars in pop.
The nominations also included some surprises, such as Outkast’s André 3000, who earned an Album of the Year nod for his jazz project New Blue Sun. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. praised the diverse roster, noting that two-thirds of Grammy voters have joined since 2019, allowing for a broader range of nominees across genres.
This year’s Grammy Awards, set for February 2, 2025, will be the first of two remaining on CBS before the show transitions to ABC in 2027. Fans and critics alike are now eagerly awaiting to see if Beyoncé can finally capture her elusive Album of the Year win, as well as if a Beatles reunion might occur with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr potentially performing the AI-assisted “Now and Then,” another notable nominee.
