Cardi B faced backlash after posting a video on X (formerly Twitter) following Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential win, where she commented on the election results, specifically targeting certain states. In the now-deleted video, Cardi remarked, “This is why some of y’all states be getting hurricanes,” referencing Trump’s victories in southeastern states like Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and North Carolina, which have experienced devastating hurricanes in recent years. Although the video was quickly removed, fans and critics alike shared their disapproval on social media.

The rapper’s comment drew strong reactions, with some labeling her remark as “insensitive” and “disgusting.” One user commented, “This is very insensitive and disgusting to say,” while others expressed disappointment, suggesting Cardi was implying that natural disasters were a consequence of political choices. Critics noted that these states, recently hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, suffered severe losses and that her words felt dismissive of the hardship faced by residents.

In addition to her video, Cardi B later tweeted, “We need a hail mary,” expressing her disappointment as Kamala Harris lost ground in key battleground states. Cardi, a vocal supporter of Harris, had previously spoken at a Harris rally, sharing her story as a daughter of immigrant parents and highlighting her challenges growing up in poverty. She noted, “Women have to work 10 times harder, perform 10 times better.”

Amidst the backlash, Elon Musk, a Trump supporter, also took a jab at Cardi, criticizing her for reading a speech from her phone at a rally. In response, Cardi defended herself, describing her journey from a background of welfare and poverty and challenging Musk’s understanding of her experiences.
