A charity shop in North Yorkshire found itself in a humorous situation after volunteers accidentally displayed two silver sex toys, believing they were doorknobs. The items, marked at £2 each, were proudly arranged in the shop window until a customer informed the staff that they weren’t typical cabinet hardware but adult items. Shocked by the revelation, the elderly assistant quickly removed them with rubber gloves, following the customer’s advice.

The mix-up caused laughter among customers and staff alike, especially when a younger staff member returned to see the display and exclaimed, “Oh my god!” The customer, who noticed the mistake, later remarked that the incident highlighted the need for more awareness among charity shop volunteers to avoid similar situations in the future.

The RSPCA responded with good humor, calling the mistake a “good faith” error. A spokesperson commented, “We’re glad this good faith mistake has given people a little laugh,” noting the surprising variety of items they receive from generous donors.

The charity expressed gratitude for the continued support, adding, “It all helps make a huge difference to help animals rescued from cruelty and neglect, even if we do occasionally find some slightly unusual delights among the items we receive.” The incident has now become a lighthearted story underscoring the unexpected surprises that come with volunteer work.
