Colin Jost has been named the host of “Pop Culture Jeopardy!”, a new spinoff of the classic game show that will air on Amazon Prime Video. Production on the Sony Pictures-produced show will begin in August, with Jost expressing his excitement in a press release. Suzanne Prete, the president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, praised Jost’s sharp wit and intelligence, stating that he epitomizes the essence of the new show.

Jost, known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and currently covering the surfing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Tahiti, has garnered mixed reactions from fans. While some fans are enthusiastic about his new role, calling him an “interesting choice” and expressing excitement, others are less impressed, describing the decision as disappointing.

“Pop Culture Jeopardy!” was announced in May as the first spinoff of the ABC game show created exclusively for streaming. The show will differ from the original by focusing on pop culture subjects like music, movies, sports, TV, and more. Contestants, playing in teams of three, will compete in a tournament-style event for a grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.

The official description for “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” highlights its combination of the academic rigor of the original “Jeopardy!” with the excitement and unpredictability of pop culture. Contestants will need to be experts in a wide range of categories, from Alternative Rock to The Avengers, as they navigate the new show’s unique format.

The premiere date for “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, the original “Jeopardy!” continues to be hosted by Ken Jennings, following the show’s long history and the legacy left by Alex Trebek, who passed away in 2020 after hosting the show for 37 seasons.
