A tragic accident claimed the lives of newlyweds Ruben Rodriguez and Juliana Rodriguez-Plata, along with Juliana’s mother, Luz Melba Martinez, as they were en route to their honeymoon in Colorado. The incident occurred on August 15 when a semi-truck carrying 500-pound pipes overturned on Interstate 70 in Wheat Ridge, causing a catastrophic collision involving several vehicles. Ruben, Juliana, and Luz were killed instantly, while Juliana’s father, Carlos Joaquin Plata, and the couple’s one-year-old son, Danny, survived but were injured.

Carlos Joaquin Plata, who was in the car during the accident, described the horrifying moment, saying, “I saw when the pipes were going so I just closed my eyes and no reaction, I just felt the impact and I woke up out of nowhere and just saw the baby crying and everyone unconscious, not waking up.” The family had been on their way to the mountains for a honeymoon vacation when the tragedy struck, leaving their loved ones devastated and struggling to understand how such a tragedy could have occurred.

The grieving family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and support the orphaned baby, with a goal of raising $95,000. As of now, nearly $34,000 has been raised. The Wheat Ridge Police Department is working with prosecutors to determine if charges will be filed in connection with the accident, as the investigation is expected to take several weeks due to the extensive debris field.

This heartbreaking incident has left the family and community in mourning, as they come together to support each other during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of the newlywed couple and Juliana’s mother serves as a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of accidents.
