Conan O’Brien has officially been announced as the host of the 2025 Oscars, marking his debut at Hollywood’s biggest event. Known for his distinctive humor and decades-long career as a late-night host, O’Brien said in a statement, “America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.” The ceremony is set to air on March 2 on ABC.
While O’Brien has hosted live events like the Emmys in 2002 and 2006, he had yet to take on the Oscars. Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich praised him as a “preeminent comedic voice” and emphasized how his wit and charisma make him the perfect fit. Executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan echoed this sentiment, saying they’re excited to work with O’Brien to create an “exciting and celebratory show.”
The announcement follows reports that other comedic heavyweights, like Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney, declined the role. Kimmel, who has hosted multiple times, including in 2023 and 2024, stated he wanted to step away from the exhaustive preparation required for the event.
Conan’s selection brings fresh energy to the Oscars, with fans eagerly anticipating how his unique comedic style will play out on Hollywood’s grand stage. This comes as part of his growing portfolio, including a popular podcast and his Max travel series, Conan O’Brien Must Go, recently renewed for another season.
