Norwegian influencer Maddie Borge recently shared a breakdown of how much she earned from a YouTube video that reached 10 million views, leaving many viewers surprised by the low amount. In a YouTube Shorts video titled “How Much YouTube Paid Me For My 10M Viewed Shorts,” Borge explained that she made money through three avenues: sponsorships, YouTube Adsense, and the YouTube Shorts fund. However, the video in question, “How we share a tiny 365ft² apartment,” was not sponsored, which meant she made nothing from that source.
For YouTube Adsense, she earned just $10.56 since the revenue was only generated from views on a laptop, as mobile views were not counted at that time. The most profitable source was the YouTube Shorts fund, from which she made $373. The total earnings for the video amounted to $385 (£290), which, while significant for a 41-second clip, seemed low compared to the video’s 10 million views.
Viewers were shocked by the amount, with some commenting that they expected the earnings to be much higher. One user noted, “300 dollars for 10 million views? thought it would be way more,” while another said, “Wow, that’s insanely low for that many views.” Many were under the impression that such a high number of views would result in a much larger payout.
Borge’s experience highlights the varying and sometimes unpredictable nature of earnings on platforms like YouTube, where revenue can depend heavily on factors like the platform’s monetization policies, sponsorships, and the type of content produced.
