An Oklahoma couple, Jesse and Deedee O’Dell, had to cancel their holiday after being mistakenly charged $4,444 for two Starbucks drinks. Typically, their coffee order costs around $10, but Deedee’s card was declined later, revealing the massive gratuity fee added in error. The couple immediately contacted Starbucks, who issued refund checks.
However, the initial refund checks bounced, leaving the couple out of pocket and unable to continue with their planned trip to Thailand. The non-refundable tickets added to their financial stress, further complicating the situation.
Starbucks eventually reissued the checks, which were successfully cashed, resolving the issue. The company confirmed that the error was due to a customer input mistake and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
Despite being loyal Starbucks customers, Jesse and Deedee expressed frustration over the ordeal, stating that the experience has made them reconsider returning to the coffee chain in the future.
