Brazilian cyclist Jaiane Souza Oliveira Fernandes tragically died after being crushed by a speaker during a race in Baianopolis, Brazil. The incident occurred on July 28 when Oliveira, 34, collided with a sound truck near the finish line. The impact caused a speaker to fall on her, resulting in severe head trauma. Despite efforts by spectators and paramedics, Oliveira succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
Reports indicate that Oliveira swerved to avoid another cyclist, causing her to crash into the truck. Another cyclist also collided with the truck but was unharmed. The event organizers, Dubai Bikers, expressed their sorrow over the loss, describing it as leaving a “deep void” in their hearts. Oliveira was a mother of two, leaving behind her husband and twin sons.
Her funeral saw a procession of around 70 cyclists from various cities paying their respects by riding alongside the car carrying her coffin. The tribute highlighted the cycling community’s solidarity and deep affection for Oliveira, who was known for her passion for the sport.
Local police are investigating the crash, with reports that the sound truck had been moved before their arrival at the scene. Social media users also shared heartfelt tributes to Oliveira and her family, reflecting the widespread impact of her tragic death.
