JK Rowling has made it clear that she will “never forgive” Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson for their public criticism of her views on the transgender community. The conflict began when Rowling tweeted in 2020, seemingly mocking an article that used the term “people who menstruate” to be inclusive of trans individuals. Radcliffe and Watson quickly responded, expressing their support for the trans community and criticizing Rowling’s comments. Radcliffe penned an essay for The Trevor Project, while Watson voiced her support for her trans followers.

Rowling recently reignited the feud in response to an independent review of the UK’s NHS gender identity services, which she claimed highlighted the harm done to children undergoing medical transition. When a social media user suggested that Radcliffe and Watson might apologize, Rowling retorted that she would not accept any apology from them, criticizing celebrities who support what she views as a movement undermining women’s rights.

Other “Harry Potter” actors have also weighed in on the controversy. Rupert Grint expressed his support for the trans community while likening Rowling to an aunt with whom he disagrees. Ralph Fiennes condemned the verbal abuse directed at Rowling, while Harry Melling and Evanna Lynch voiced their belief that transgender individuals should be respected and acknowledged. The divide between Rowling and her former cast members remains a significant and public rift.
