David Letterman, the 76-year-old former talk show host, has come out as a supporter of Taylor Swift, especially regarding her attendance at NFL games amidst her relationship with Travis Kelce. In a humorous mix-up, Letterman mistakenly referred to Kelce as “Kelsey Grammer,” the actor known for “Frasier,” in a clip from an October 2023 video.
Producer Barbara Gaines corrected Letterman, but he continued, expressing frustration over the negative reactions to Swift’s presence at football games. He said, “People go crazy [about seeing Swift]. The [Kelce] people say, ‘No, no, don’t bother us. We’re all caught up in football. We don’t want Taylor in football.’”
Letterman, who has interviewed Swift multiple times on the “Late Show” before his 2015 retirement, praised the positive impact of Swift’s presence, saying, “This is such a lovely thing. Shut up! It’s good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift. And it’s something positive and happy for the world. … God bless, Taylor Swift and Kelsey Grammer.” Swift is expected to attend Super Bowl LVII on February 11, where the Chiefs will play the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Despite her “Eras Tour” performance in Tokyo on February 10, Swift can make it to the Super Bowl thanks to her private jet and the time difference between Las Vegas and Tokyo.
Kelce spoke about handling public attention in their relationship, stating, “The only thing we’ve talked about is as long as we’re happy, we can’t listen to anything that’s outside noise. That’s all that matters.”
ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith also supported Swift, commenting on “The Howard Stern Show,” “… She’s going to support her dude. To show up at a football game and the cameras are on her — that ain’t her fault. And excuse me, by the way, she went to the games after the concerts. It’s not like she used the games to bump up the concerts.” He added, “… Taylor Swift is that girl! Let’s show some respect. She probably is gonna have a positive impact on Travis Kelce’s performance, OK. I’m not trying to disrespect Taylor Swift.”
