Sean “Diddy” Combs has broken his silence following the release of a video showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in 2016. The video, which surfaced earlier this week, depicts a disturbing altercation between the rapper and Cassie at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, May 19, Diddy issued an apology. He stated, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you have to do that. I was messed up. I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted by what I did then, and I’m disgusted by it now. I sought professional help, went to therapy, and rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. I’m committed to being a better man each day. I’m not asking for forgiveness; I’m truly sorry.”
Cassie Ventura had previously filed a lawsuit against Combs in November 2023, alleging that he frequently beat her during their decade-long on-and-off relationship. The day after filing, they announced a settlement. However, the recent video has brought renewed attention to the allegations. In the footage, Combs is seen grabbing Cassie by the neck, throwing her to the floor, kicking her twice, and dragging her by her sweatshirt.
In her statement, Cassie said, “After years of silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story and speak up on behalf of myself and other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships. With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and will be recovering from for the rest of my life.”
Combs has vehemently denied the allegations. His lawyers told UNILAD that Cassie’s lawsuit was “riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’ reputation and seeking a payday.” The video shows a heated and violent exchange that has prompted widespread condemnation and calls for accountability.
