Johnny Depp may be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, according to a recent report. After being dropped by Disney in 2022 following allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp won a defamation case, which has seemingly reopened discussions about his involvement in the franchise. Series producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that two scripts for the sixth film are in development—one with Depp and one without.
Depp famously stated during his trial that “nothing on this Earth” would make him work with Disney again, casting doubt on his willingness to return. However, with the franchise’s massive success—grossing $4.53 billion across five films—Disney appears eager to reintroduce the character fans have long associated with the series.
No official agreement has been made, but the possibility of Depp’s return has sparked excitement among fans, even as debates continue about the implications of reinstating him in the wake of past controversies. For now, the film remains in development, leaving room for further speculation.
