Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to federal workers who have not responded to Elon Musk’s controversial email demanding they list their weekly accomplishments. Trump defended the move, saying, “We’re trying to find out if people are working… If you don’t answer, you’re sort of semi-fired, or you’re fired, because a lot of people are not answering because they don’t even exist.”
The email, sent to two million federal employees, required them to submit five bullet points detailing their work. Those who failed to respond by the deadline would be considered as having resigned. The order, backed by Trump, is part of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative to cut bureaucracy and eliminate what they claim is government waste.

Musk doubled down on the email, calling non-responders “incompetent” and extending the deadline at Trump’s discretion. He also suggested that the data collected would be processed through AI to determine which jobs are “mission-critical.”
The move has sparked backlash, with FBI Director Kash Patel advising staff not to comply and federal worker unions condemning it as “disrespectful and unlawful.” Despite the controversy, Musk and Trump remain committed to pushing their plan forward.
