Ellen DeGeneres has announced she is quitting Hollywood for good. The comedian and former talk show host revealed this decision during a Q&A session after one of her shows on her Ellen’s Last Stand… Up Tour. This tour will be filmed and released as a Netflix special, marking her final public appearance in the entertainment industry.
DeGeneres clarified that she will not return to making movies or voice acting, including her iconic role as Dory from Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. She emphasized, “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.” Her departure from Hollywood comes after nearly 20 years of hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which ended amidst allegations of misconduct on set.
The allegations against DeGeneres’ show ranged from racism and sexual misconduct to intimidation, leading to an internal investigation and the firing of three Warner Media executives. DeGeneres issued a public apology, acknowledging the severity of the accusations and expressing regret for any harm caused. Despite her efforts to address the situation, the end of her show was a significant blow, and she has spoken about her hurt and disappointment over how her career concluded.
In her comedy tour, DeGeneres has used humor to reflect on the controversy and her departure from show business. She remarked, “Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.” She continued to defend her character, asserting, “I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean.”
Ellen’s Last Stand… Up Tour will run until August 17, after which DeGeneres intends to retreat from the public eye. She expressed her deep affection for her show and her discontent with how it ended, indicating that this was not the conclusion she envisioned for her career. Nonetheless, she remains firm in her decision to step away from Hollywood entirely.
