Elton John recently revealed the extent of his health issues during the premiere of his new documentary Elton John: Never Too Late. The 77-year-old music icon joked with the audience, saying, “There’s not much of me left,” referencing the many surgeries he has undergone over the years. John mentioned he has had his tonsils, adenoids, appendix, prostate, and multiple joints—including both knees and his right hip—removed. He humorously added that the only original part of him left is his left hip.
Despite these health challenges, Elton continues to express gratitude, telling the audience, “I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.” The singer, who has battled serious health problems for decades, from knee and hip replacements to a pacemaker and severe infections, has recently retired from touring after over 50 years in the industry. In his farewell, he reflected on his career, stating, “I’ve done all there is to do, to play. I’ve succeeded. I’ve been there and I’ve done it.”
The documentary, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, provides exclusive access to Elton onstage, behind the scenes, and in the studio. It is set to stream on Disney+ starting December 13. The film offers a comprehensive look at John’s career, personal challenges, and reflections as he prepares to step away from performing after decades of being a global music legend.
