Family Files Lawsuit Claiming Boeing Was Cause Of Whistleblower’s Death
John Barnett

The family of Boeing whistleblower John Barnett has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming the company played a direct role in the events leading to his death. Barnett, a longtime employee of Boeing, came forward after retiring in 2017 with serious safety allegations regarding the 787 Dreamliner production line, including claims that defective parts were being installed under pressure and that up to 25% of emergency oxygen masks might fail during an incident.

In March 2024, Barnett was found dead in his truck from a gunshot wound to the head, just days after giving extended legal testimony. Authorities ruled the death a suicide, and a note found at the scene—later verified by handwriting and fingerprint analysis—contained a scathing condemnation of Boeing, accusing the company of destroying his life. His family says he was subjected to a prolonged campaign of harassment and psychological pressure that ultimately drove him to the breaking point.

The lawsuit, filed by Barnett’s mother and two brothers in South Carolina, alleges Boeing deliberately tried to discredit him through a pattern of abuse and intimidation. The filing includes a quote from Barnett’s final writings: “F* Boeing… I pray the mother**** that destroyed my life pay!”

Boeing has issued a brief statement saying they are saddened by Barnett’s death and extended condolences to his loved ones. The case adds to ongoing scrutiny of Boeing’s corporate practices, raising deeper questions about whistleblower protections in high-stakes industries.
