A family in Denbigh, Wales, has made headlines for living in a home surrounded by a busy roundabout. David John and Eirian Howatson moved into their bungalow over 60 years ago, long before the roundabout was constructed in 1980. Refusing to sell their home during bypass construction plans in the 1970s, the roundabout was simply built around them.
Clwyd Howatson, now 64, has spent most of his life in the house and says the location doesn’t bother them. “It’s not noisy; we have double glazing,” he explained. However, navigating traffic to leave the roundabout can sometimes be tricky, and delivery drivers often struggle to find their address, thinking their GPS is malfunctioning.
Despite the unusual setup, the family has avoided any major accidents over the years. Clwyd shared that some drivers went the wrong way around the roundabout when it was first built, but they’ve since adapted to the unique challenges of living there.
The Howatson family has no plans to leave their quirky home anytime soon. For them, the unusual living arrangement has simply become a way of life, offering them privacy and a unique story to share.
