A Florida family experienced a Christmas miracle when their missing dog, Athena, rang their doorbell on Christmas Eve after being gone for nine days. The four-year-old German Shepherd-Husky mix had escaped on December 15, prompting her family to launch an extensive search with physical and digital flyers and the help of neighbors across Jacksonville and Saint Augustine.

At 2:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, Athena’s owner, Brooke Comer, was awakened by the sound of the dog pawing at the door and ringing the doorbell, a moment captured on their security camera. The emotional reunion brought relief to Comer’s four children, who had been heartbroken during Athena’s absence.

Community members had reported spotting Athena wandering through various neighborhoods, giving the family hope that she was still alive. Their persistence paid off when the resourceful dog found her way home just in time for the holidays.
