Dominic Weaver, a Kentucky father who evaded paying over $100,000 in child support for more than a decade, was arrested in Miami after disembarking from a cruise ship. Weaver, 47, was apprehended by local authorities and flown back to Louisville, Kentucky, to face charges. Prosecutors allege that Weaver fled jurisdiction and has not made any payments since his original sentence.

According to Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell, Weaver’s debt has now ballooned to between $114,000 and $120,000. O’Connell described the case as one of the most egregious examples of child support evasion, highlighting that Weaver has multiple felony cases against him. Officials have noted that they provide resources, including employment assistance, to help individuals meet their obligations, but Weaver has reportedly refused cooperation.

Weaver is set to appear in court on January 6, where prosecutors plan to request a revocation of his previous sentence and recommend up to four years in state prison. His arrest underscores the legal consequences for avoiding child support payments and the efforts by authorities to track down long-term offenders.

The case has reignited discussions about accountability in child support cases and the measures necessary to ensure that financial responsibilities to children are met, even across state lines.
