Fire Chief Gives Update On Gene Hackman’s Death Investigation After Finding Tragic Detail

Fire Chief Brian Moya has provided a major update on the investigation into the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, confirming that they likely passed away at nearly the same time. The couple, aged 95 and 65, were found in separate rooms of their Santa Fe home on February 26, along with one of their dogs. While initial speculation suggested carbon monoxide poisoning, fire department tests found no evidence of a leak.

Investigators have since revealed that Hackman’s pacemaker last recorded activity on February 17, nine days before their bodies were discovered. Additionally, the New Mexico Gas Company found a small gas leak near a stove burner, but it was determined to be too minor to be lethal. Four other minor code violations related to the home’s heating systems were noted but were not considered contributing factors to their deaths.

Sheriff’s officials reported that Hackman was found in a mudroom, while Arakawa was in a bathroom next to a space heater. A prescription bottle with pills scattered on the counter was also found in the bathroom. Authorities have stated that neither had gunshot wounds or any signs of external trauma, but toxicology tests are still pending.

With no clear cause of death yet determined, the investigation remains ongoing. While natural causes are still a possibility, the unusual circumstances surrounding their deaths continue to raise questions. Family, friends, and fans await further answers as officials work to piece together what happened in the final moments of the Hollywood legend and his wife.
