Emma Johnson, a 43-year-old hairdresser from Newcastle, Australia, was shocked to learn she has stage four breast cancer despite feeling completely healthy. She had been getting regular mammograms since turning 40 and was initially told the lump she found was likely harmless.
In early January, doctors diagnosed her with an aggressive form of double-positive breast cancer. At first, they believed it was stage two and treatable, but further scans revealed the cancer had spread to her liver and lymph nodes. She was then given a devastating prognosis—possibly only two years to live.
Doctors informed Johnson that surgery and chemotherapy were not options. Instead, she would receive hormone injections and daily pills. Struggling to accept the news, she said, “I go to the gym every day. I’m healthy. I don’t eat rubbish. I never imagined I’d be told I have stage four cancer.”
Now, she and her family are exploring alternative treatments at a clinic in Mexico, which they believe could extend her life. A fundraiser has been launched to help cover the costs, as they hold onto hope for more time together.
