Joseph Voigt, 23, has been arrested in Florida for allegedly killing his father, Marvin Voigt, 63, and critically injuring his mother, Susan Voigt, 58. The violent altercation reportedly followed Marvin’s plea for Joseph to stop playing video games and find a job. Police discovered Marvin’s body in the driveway with gunshot wounds and Susan inside the house, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Joseph fled the scene in a vehicle but was apprehended early Sunday morning in Orlando after a traffic stop by local authorities. He later confessed to the shootings, telling investigators his father’s frustrations with his gaming habits and lack of employment led to the dispute.

Joseph, who has a criminal history including battery and firearm offenses, had been released from jail just days prior to the incident. He now faces charges of murder and attempted murder, with Polk County authorities leading the investigation.

The incident has left the Bartow community in shock, with police describing the tragedy as “senseless” and offering condolences to the family. Investigators continue to work to ensure justice is served.
