A mermaid performer at China’s Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park aquarium was attacked by a giant fish mid-performance, leaving her with a deep cut below her eye. The shocking incident, caught on video, shows the performer, identified as 22-year-old Masha, swimming gracefully before the large fish suddenly clamps its mouth around her head. Onlookers can be heard screaming as she struggles to free herself and frantically swims to the surface.

The unidentified fish, which appeared unfazed by the commotion, continued swimming around the tank as if nothing had happened. The aquarium is known for showcasing species native to the Mekong and Yangtze rivers, though it remains unclear what type of fish was involved in the attack.

Following the incident, Masha was reportedly offered just $96 in “moral damages,” sparking criticism over the aquarium’s response. Reports suggest that the facility is attempting to downplay the situation, though the viral footage has already spread widely online.

Despite the terrifying moment, the performer did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. However, the incident has raised concerns about safety measures for performers working in close contact with unpredictable aquatic life.
