Sienna Stewart, an 18-year-old from Hiram High School in Georgia, tragically passed away after collapsing during her high school graduation ceremony. Diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy at the age of four, Sienna had undergone a heart transplant when she was eight. Unfortunately, in April of this year, she was diagnosed with heart failure once again. During her graduation, she initially regained consciousness after collapsing and expressed her desire to walk across the stage, a moment captured in photos where she is seen smiling and shaking hands with a school official.
However, Sienna collapsed again just two weeks later, and despite her mother’s efforts and the presence of medical assistance, she passed away in the hospital a few days later. Her mother, Saevon Chum, shared the heartbreaking experience of holding her daughter and calling 911, uncertain if she would wake up. Saevon expressed pride in Sienna’s determination and courage, especially given that she had already missed her senior prom due to her health issues.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Sienna’s family, raising over $10,000. The campaign describes Sienna as a vibrant young woman with a contagious laugh and an unmatched energy. She had just graduated and was planning to attend college in the fall. Sienna leaves behind her mother and two older siblings.
Sienna’s story has touched many, highlighting her bravery and the close bond she shared with her family. Her mother expressed immense pride in her daughter’s strength and resilience, even in the face of severe health challenges. The community’s support through the GoFundMe campaign reflects the impact Sienna had on those around her, with many remembering her as a bright light with a bubbly personality.
