Seventeen-year-old hockey player Connor Kasin tragically died after collapsing during a charity game honoring a former teammate. The memorial match, held at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, was dedicated to Sabrina Navaretta, a Syosset graduate who died in a car crash last year. Kasin suffered a medical episode during intermission, with bystanders rushing to perform CPR before paramedics arrived. Despite being transported to a hospital, he was pronounced dead.

The cause of Kasin’s collapse remains unknown, but police have ruled out foul play. His high school, Massapequa, expressed its condolences and announced grief counseling for students. His travel team, Sharks Elite Youth Hockey, and coach Jeff Tempone mourned his loss, describing him as a talented, dedicated, and well-loved teammate.

Navaretta’s family, who organized the event to support scholarships and grieving parents, released a heartfelt statement extending their sympathies to Kasin’s loved ones. “We would like the Kasin family to know our commitment to you…Connor was there to play for Sabrina, and our family is here for you,” they said.

The New York Islanders also paid tribute, calling Kasin a “beloved member” of the local hockey community. The incident has left the Long Island hockey community in shock, highlighting the fragility of life and the bond shared by players and their families.
