Miami homeowner Leo Kryss is suing his realtor for $6 million after discovering that Jeff Bezos was the buyer of his mansion. Kryss sold his Indian Creek island mansion for $79 million but had originally listed it for $85 million. He claims the realtor persuaded him to drop the price without disclosing the buyer’s identity, which could have affected his decision-making during negotiations.
Kryss is frustrated because, had he known Bezos was purchasing the property, he might have held firm on the original price. Bezos, one of the wealthiest people in the world, is worth over $200 billion, leading Kryss to believe he could have secured the full asking price. Kryss had purchased the mansion for $28 million in 2014, so while he made a significant profit, he feels short-changed by the deal.
The lawsuit suggests Bezos intended to combine the mansion with an adjoining property, which Kryss believes was critical information to have during negotiations. The property is located on the exclusive “billionaire bunker” island, home to some of the richest individuals and known for its luxury and privacy.
Despite his profits, Kryss is unhappy with how the deal was handled, feeling misled by the realtor’s tactics. The lawsuit reflects the high stakes involved in the ultra-wealthy real estate market, where even million-dollar differences can spark legal battles.
