Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs have been accused in a civil lawsuit of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl more than 20 years ago at a party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, alleges that the girl, identified only as “Jane Doe,” was assaulted by the two musicians in a drug-fueled environment as an unnamed female celebrity looked on. The accusations include claims of physical violence and coercion.
Jay-Z has strongly denied the allegations, labeling them a blackmail attempt orchestrated by the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee. In a public statement, Jay-Z criticized the lawsuit’s approach and demanded that the allegations be brought as a criminal complaint if legitimate. He stated, “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion.”
The lawsuit is part of a broader wave of allegations against Diddy, who is already facing federal sex trafficking charges. Diddy’s legal team has dismissed the claims as baseless and characterized the lawsuits as attempts to gain publicity.
Both artists have maintained their innocence, and the ongoing legal battles have drawn intense public and media scrutiny. The case underscores the complexities of addressing allegations from decades past within the framework of civil and criminal law.
