John Cena has finally explained why he follows nearly a million random people on X (formerly Twitter), a habit that has puzzled fans for years. While most celebrities follow only a select few accounts, Cena has amassed over 950,000 follows, a number that continues to grow daily.
Speaking to TV host and wrestling expert Chris Van Vliet, Cena said his approach is about “breaking free from echo chambers” and encouraging open conversations. “Twitter is a conversation starter, and how do you start a conversation? Follow everyone—people you know nothing about, walks of life you know nothing about, people that don’t share your views, people who speak out harshly against your value system,” he explained.
He contrasted this with his Instagram, where he follows no one, calling it “an interpretive exercise.” Cena added that he doesn’t want to “lead the witness” by following specific accounts, as it could influence how people interpret his posts. When asked if making people’s day was part of his motivation, he admitted, “There’s a little shred of gravity in that too.”
Cena also revealed he plans to keep up his routine, saying he follows about 1,000 people a day. So, if you haven’t been followed by him yet, you just might be next.
