John Cena, the WWE superstar and actor, recently opened up about his decision not to have children. Despite being an idol for countless kids and holding a Guinness World Record for the most Make-a-Wish Foundation requests, Cena has decided against fatherhood. He shared his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in January 2022.

Cena explained that his primary reason for not wanting children is the lack of time. He described his life as “riding a lightning bolt,” filled with opportunities and achievements beyond his dreams. Cena emphasized that balancing the demands of parenthood with his career and personal life would be extremely challenging. He mentioned that even maintaining his role as a loving husband and a dedicated professional requires significant effort and time management.

Cena’s perspective is rooted in the belief that passion is essential for any major life commitment, including parenthood. He argued that being good at something isn’t a strong enough reason to pursue it without genuine enthusiasm and dedication. This viewpoint influenced his relationships, notably his six-year relationship with fellow WWE superstar Nikki Bella, which ended partly because of differing desires regarding children. Bella ultimately ended their engagement to avoid forcing Cena into a role he didn’t truly want.

Cena, now 47, also announced his retirement from WWE as an in-ring talent, set for the end of 2025. He has been married to Shay Shariatzadeh since 2020, and despite his fame and success, he remains firm in his decision to prioritize his current life and relationships over having children.
