Johnny Depp recently addressed his high-profile defamation trial with Amber Heard, which he referred to as a “soap opera,” while attending the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain. Depp is in the country to premiere his new film Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness, his second directorial project. Comparing his tumultuous life to that of the film’s subject, Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, Depp mentioned that everyone goes through challenges, though not everyone’s life turns into a “televised soap opera.”
The trial, which saw Depp suing Heard for defamation in 2022 and Heard countersuing, ended with Depp being awarded $10.35 million and Heard receiving $2 million in damages. Following the trial, Heard moved to Spain with her daughter to live a more private life. She recently commented on Depp’s presence in the country, expressing her contentment with her life in Madrid and her desire to leave her past behind.
The renewed attention on the former couple’s legal battle comes as both try to move forward with their lives. Depp continues to work on his film career, while Heard focuses on raising her daughter away from the public eye.
