Green Day has been banned from two Las Vegas radio stations after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong made harsh comments about the city during a concert in San Francisco. While performing, Armstrong expressed his anger over the Oakland A’s baseball team moving to Las Vegas, referring to the city as the “worst s**thole in America.” His strong words were directed toward John Fisher, the owner responsible for the team’s relocation.
In response, Las Vegas rock stations KOMP 92.3 and X 107.5 decided to remove all Green Day songs from their playlists. KOMP 92.3 took to Instagram, stating, “It’s not us, Billie… it’s you. #vegas4ever,” while X 107.5 echoed the sentiment on their website, highlighting the city’s displeasure with Armstrong’s comments. The decision to ban the band’s music came as a surprise, given that Armstrong had performed a pop-up show in Las Vegas the previous year, which was well-received.
Although Armstrong and the band have yet to publicly respond to the ban, he recently voiced his disappointment over the A’s departure from Oakland on social media. He expressed his sadness for the fans and workers affected by the team’s relocation and reflected on the cultural loss the city has faced. Green Day continues their North American tour amidst the ongoing controversy.
