In her posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, Lisa Marie Presley offers a deeply personal account of her relationship with Michael Jackson. Presley recalls that Jackson, before they were romantically involved, declared his love for her while she was still married to Danny Keough. This declaration led to the end of her first marriage, and soon after, she and Jackson began dating, eventually marrying in 1994. The memoir reveals surprising details about their relationship, including Jackson’s confession that he was still a virgin when they first got together. Presley wrote that Jackson mentioned his previous relationships with Tatum O’Neal and Brooke Shields had not been physical, and though Madonna had tried to pursue him, nothing happened between them either.

Their whirlwind romance culminated in a wedding just weeks after Presley’s divorce, but their marriage lasted only two years. Presley notes her hesitation in navigating their intimacy, afraid of making a wrong move. Despite their divorce, both Jackson and Presley’s legacies remain intertwined, especially in light of their high-profile lives. Presley passed away in 2023 from complications following bariatric surgery, years after Jackson’s death in 2009.

Her daughter, Riley Keough, completed the memoir after Presley’s passing, using tapes her mother left behind. Keough spoke about her desire to portray her mother in a more authentic light, revealing her complexities and humanity. Through the memoir, Presley hoped to connect with others by sharing her struggles with love, loss, and family, showing that even in extraordinary circumstances, people face very human emotions.
