Margot Robbie recently revealed that one of the most iconic scenes in The Wolf of Wall Street—her seductive moment in the nursery—almost looked very different. Playing Naomi Lapaglia, the glamorous yet fiery wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, Robbie was initially supposed to perform a far more risqué move. The script had her using her stiletto heel to pull aside her underwear, but Robbie immediately realized the move was “physically impossible.”
When Robbie first read the script, she thought, “That’s just impossible,” she shared with The Globe and Mail. Instead, she suggested improvising the now-famous scene where Naomi pokes her heel into Jordan’s face, delivering her memorable line about “short skirts.” The scene was intense to film, with Robbie spending 17 hours in a cramped bedroom set, surrounded by a crew of 30, almost all men, while she pretended to be touching herself. It required her to dig deep to commit to the moment and brush off any embarrassment.
Interestingly, the real-life inspiration behind Robbie’s character, Dr. Nadine Macaluso, clarified on TikTok that while the nursery scene was entertaining, it was largely fictionalized. She said, “I am not that sexy,” and explained it was more of her ex-husband’s fantasy than reality.
Despite the awkwardness behind the scenes, Robbie’s improvisation led to one of the film’s most memorable and discussed moments, sealing her reputation as a bold and dedicated actress.
