Argentinian authorities have detained three people in connection with the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who passed away in October following a tragic fall from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Payne, 31, reportedly fell three floors from his room at the CasaSur hotel, suffering fatal injuries. An autopsy confirmed that Payne experienced “internal and external hemorrhaging” due to the 40-meter fall.
Following his death, police launched an investigation that involved questioning several individuals linked to the incident. In a recent update, Argentinian media outlets reported that three people, including two hotel employees and a local businessman who was a friend of Payne’s, have been detained. According to the public prosecutor’s office, they face charges of “abandonment of a person followed by death” and are alleged to have facilitated narcotics.
A police raid on the CasaSur hotel revealed potential evidence, including computer hard drives and security footage. Authorities reviewed 800 hours of video from the hotel and nearby areas to piece together the events surrounding Payne’s death. They also conducted a forensic examination of his phone, including his call and message records.
The investigation continues with additional raids in Buenos Aires, as police scrutinize Payne’s devices and other materials to clarify the circumstances leading to his tragic passing. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that “exhaustive and meticulous measures” are being taken as the investigation progresses.
