Michael Jordan is officially returning to the NBA spotlight—this time as a “special contributor” for NBC’s basketball coverage. The announcement was made during NBC’s Upfront presentation in New York, confirming that Jordan will be part of the network’s NBA programming beginning in the 2025–26 season.
“I’m so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,” Jordan said. “The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project.” His role is expected to include appearances and commentary during major broadcasts when the network begins airing games this October.

Jordan, who sold his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets in 2023 for over $3 billion, has mostly focused on his NASCAR team, 23XI Racing, since stepping back from basketball operations. His return to the NBA—this time through broadcasting—adds another chapter to his unmatched legacy.
NBC Sports President Rick Cordella called Jordan’s involvement an honor, saying, “Michael’s legacy both on and off the court speaks for itself.” NBC recently secured an 11-year media rights deal to broadcast NBA games, joining ESPN/ABC and Amazon in the league’s new streaming era.
