Michael Richards, the former “Seinfeld” star, is making a comeback with the release of his new memoir, “Entrances and Exits.” Nearly 20 years after his infamous N-word rant, Richards reflects on the incident and shares how he has changed since then. Appearing on “Today” with Hoda Kotb, Richards addressed the controversy head-on, discussing his personal growth and the steps he has taken to move past the incident.

In 2006, Richards faced severe backlash after repeatedly using the N-word during a tirade at the Laugh Factory, targeting a Black audience member who was heckling him. This outburst significantly impacted his career and public image. During the interview, Kotb asked Richards how he has changed since that night. Richards responded with a genuine acknowledgment of his growth, stating that he has done a lot of introspection and self-examination. He admitted that while he still harbors some anger, it is significantly less than before, and he has forgiven himself for his actions.

Richards also confirmed that he has made efforts to apologize and make amends for his behavior, actions he has taken over the years. He feels that he has done enough to move forward and re-enter the public sphere. His “Seinfeld” co-star, Jerry Seinfeld, has been a consistent supporter throughout this period and even wrote the foreword for Richards’ book.

In “Entrances and Exits,” Richards delves into his journey of self-improvement and the lessons he has learned. The memoir offers insights into his personal and professional life, shedding light on the experiences that have shaped him over the past two decades. Richards’ story is one of redemption and growth, aiming to show that people can change and learn from their mistakes. As he reintroduces himself to the public, Richards hopes to move beyond the shadow of his past and be recognized for the person he has become.
