Ahead of Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with Mike Tyson, Tyson’s last professional opponent, Kevin McBride, has issued a serious warning about Tyson’s formidable strength. McBride, who faced Tyson in 2005, described the heavyweight legend’s punches as unforgettable, stating, “I still feel it to this day.” Emphasizing Tyson’s enduring power, McBride remarked that “power is the last thing to go,” citing George Foreman’s return to boxing as proof that age doesn’t weaken knockout potential.
Roy Jones Jr., who sparred with Tyson in a 2020 exhibition, echoed McBride’s concerns. After a blow from Tyson felt “like a mule had kicked [him] in the chest,” Jones Jr. advised Paul to brace himself, emphasizing that Tyson’s “legendary explosiveness” remains intact, even at 58.
Paul, aware of the criticism for facing an older opponent, defended his choice, calling it an “honor” and a “dream come true” to share the ring with Tyson. The fight, scheduled for November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Texas, will feature modified rules, including two-minute rounds and 14-ounce gloves, aiming to balance safety and excitement.
This much-anticipated event will stream on Netflix, with around 80,000 fans expected to watch Tyson and Paul in action, marking a unique clash between the boxing icon and the younger social media star.
