Neil Patrick Harris has shared a heartfelt message to his twin children, Harper and Gideon, reaffirming that he has no interest in knowing which one is biologically his. The How I Met Your Mother star, who welcomed the twins with husband David Burtka via surrogate in 2010, has long maintained that their genetic connection doesn’t matter.

In a birthday post for their 14th birthday, Harris wrote, “I have never been more proud of anything in my entire life, and I suspect I never will. My husband David and I marvel at their maturity, are wowed by their warmth, chuffed by their charm.” He added that while they don’t openly express these sentiments to their kids, “They’re not on Insta, so I’m free to speak honestly. They’ll never find out.”

In a past interview, Harris explained that both he and Burtka contributed sperm to fertilize two separate embryos, resulting in fraternal twins. While the couple has suspicions about whose child is whose “based on their behavior,” Harris said, “I have no interest in [finding out]. We are their parents, and I love them implicitly.”

Harris and Burtka, who have been together since 2004 and married in 2014, have been praised for their parenting approach. Despite fan curiosity over their children’s genetics, the couple remains focused on raising Harper and Gideon with love and support, regardless of biology.
