A newly proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution could potentially allow Donald Trump to serve as president until 2032. The proposal, introduced by Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles, seeks to amend the 22nd Amendment, which currently limits presidents to two terms. Ogles argues that Trump needs more time to fulfill his goals and reverse what he describes as the nation’s “decay” over the past four years.

The proposed amendment comes just days after Trump was sworn in as the 47th president, making history as only the second U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms, alongside Grover Cleveland. Ogles praised Trump’s leadership, claiming that the country requires his “bold leadership” to restore its greatness, and that a third term would ensure the continuation of his policies.

In his first 24 hours back in office, Trump has already enacted several controversial measures, including pardoning 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riots and rolling back certain gender identity policies by declaring only two recognized genders. He also temporarily reversed a TikTok ban, citing national security reviews as a priority.

If successful, the proposal would mark a dramatic shift in American politics, altering a constitutional safeguard that has been in place since the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The proposal is expected to face significant debate and resistance as it raises questions about the balance of power and the future of presidential term limits.
