Angus Mitchell, the sole heir and son of the legendary hairstylist Paul Mitchell, has tragically passed away at the age of 53. TMZ reported that law enforcement received a call early Wednesday morning to Angus’ Honolulu residence, where he was found unresponsive in a swimming pool. Despite immediate attention, Angus was pronounced dead at the scene. The official cause of death has yet to be determined.
The night before his untimely death, Angus had been spending time with friends at his home, enjoying Hawaiian music, as shown in a video he shared. Angus was deeply entrenched in the hairstyling world, co-owning John Paul Mitchell Systems, a company his father founded in 1980. After his father’s death from pancreatic cancer in 1989, Angus inherited his stake in the company and its affiliated schools.
Angus, who studied hairstyling, often credited his father as his primary mentor. He worked in Hawaii for several years before opening the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills in 2010. Beyond his business ventures, Angus was known as an educator, model, and spokesman for MITCH, a men’s line under the John Paul Mitchell Systems brand.
His personal life saw him marrying Michelle Raab in 2010 on the island, followed by two more marriages, one with Sian, with whom he shares an 8-year-old son named Dylan, and then with his current wife, Mara.
Despite the challenges, Angus embraced his destiny in hairstyling, a field he once described as “one of the more difficult” career paths he chose. His dedication and talent led him to receive numerous accolades, including being named #1 Platform Artist by Be magazine, having a day dedicated to him in Beverly Hills, and receiving three awards from the Alternative Hair Show, which fundraises for leukemia research.
The hairstyling community and those who knew Angus mourn the loss of a talented and influential figure.
