Popular Show ‘Severance’ Cost $18,000,000 Per Episode, Has Become Most Watched Show In Apple TV History

Apple TV+’s Severance has officially become the most-watched show in the platform’s history, surpassing Ted Lasso. The psychological workplace drama returned in January for its highly anticipated second season, and viewership has skyrocketed, with 589 million minutes streamed in the U.S. alone. Nearly 28% of that comes from just the first episode of the new season.

Apple reportedly spent around $200 million on the second season, averaging a staggering $20 million per episode. The investment seems to have paid off, as the show has received widespread acclaim, earning a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Ben Stiller, the series follows Mark (Adam Scott), an employee at Lumon Industries, where workers undergo a procedure that separates their work and personal memories.

Christopher Walken, who plays retired employee Burt, attributes the show’s success to its mystery and intrigue. “You’re always interested in what happens next. It’s got the ingredients of what people like to watch,” he said. Stiller has also hinted at plans for a third season, explaining that the show’s future depends on “where the story takes us, not just success.”

New episodes of Severance continue to release weekly, and fans are already speculating about what twists the series has in store. With its record-breaking numbers and critical acclaim, Severance has cemented itself as one of Apple TV+’s most significant hits.
