Prince Harry has claimed that it is “still dangerous” to bring his wife, Meghan Markle, back to the United Kingdom. In a recent appearance on ITV’s documentary “Tabloids on Trial,” the Duke of Sussex expressed ongoing concerns for his family’s safety, even four years after their move to the United States. Harry cited past altercations with British tabloids and the royal institution, which led to the couple relocating to California in 2020.
The couple had taken legal action against Mirror Group Newspapers for allegedly sourcing and publishing private information, which exacerbated their rift with the British monarchy. The legal battle concluded in December with a ruling in Harry’s favor, awarding him significant damages. Despite feeling “vindicated” by the ruling, Harry maintains that the danger persists, fearing that a lone actor might act on tabloid stories with harmful intent.
Harry highlighted the threat of potential attacks and criticized the media’s focus on him and Meghan. He also noted that his petition for tax-funded security during UK visits was denied. His lawyer, Shaheed Fatima QC, emphasized Harry’s desire to return to the UK to see family and friends and support his charitable endeavors, despite the security concerns. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to prioritize their safety while navigating their complex relationship with the UK and its media.
