Putin ‘Absolutely Supports’ Trump’s Idea For Ceasefire, But He Has His Conditions

Vladimir Putin has stated that he “absolutely supports” Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine but has laid out conditions that could complicate negotiations. While Putin acknowledged that a 30-day ceasefire is a “good idea,” he raised concerns about what would happen to Russian-controlled areas, particularly regarding Ukrainian forces in certain regions. He questioned whether Russian troops would be required to withdraw or release prisoners captured in ongoing battles.

One of Russia’s key demands is that Ukraine permanently forgo NATO membership and agree not to allow foreign troops on its soil. Reports indicate that Ukraine has rejected these terms, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accusing Russia of trying to “prolong the war” rather than genuinely pursuing peace. Zelenskyy urged the U.S. to maintain pressure on Moscow, arguing that only firm action from Washington could compel Russia to negotiate in good faith.

The U.S. recently resumed providing intelligence and security assistance to Ukraine following talks in Saudi Arabia. A joint statement from both countries reiterated that a ceasefire could begin immediately if Russia agrees to the same conditions as Ukraine. However, with Russia demanding additional guarantees, the likelihood of an immediate peace deal remains uncertain.

As discussions continue, the situation highlights the complexity of achieving a ceasefire that satisfies all parties. While Trump has threatened “very bad punishment” if Russia refuses to comply, Putin’s latest remarks suggest that any agreement will require further negotiation and compromise.
