Rosie O’Donnell has confirmed that she moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old child, Clay, just days before Donald Trump’s inauguration. In a nine-minute TikTok video, she explained that while she never imagined leaving the U.S., she felt it was the best decision for her family. O’Donnell, who has Irish ancestry, is now in the process of obtaining Irish citizenship and says she has been welcomed with kindness.
Although she and Clay are adjusting well, O’Donnell admitted she misses her other children and life in America. However, she stressed that she won’t consider returning until she believes the U.S. is “safe” for all citizens to have equal rights. As a longtime critic of Trump, she described the current political climate as “heartbreaking” and said she felt the need to take care of her mental well-being.
O’Donnell has shared glimpses of her new life, including buying a small used car to drive around the Irish countryside and watching rugby at local pubs. She has also hinted at an interest in being a judge on Ireland’s Got Talent. Her recent Instagram posts, including a selfie captioned “bought a little used car… hit the curb three times—thought I hit a cat!!!,” have given fans insight into her new adventure.

She ended her video by encouraging Americans to stand up for democracy, urging them to use their voices to demand change. While she remains hopeful that the U.S. will “turn things around,” she made it clear that, for now, she is fully embracing her new life in Ireland.
