Shia LaBeouf has opened up about how his life changed after being blacklisted from Hollywood following allegations of abuse by his former partner, FKA Twigs. In a 2020 lawsuit, Twigs accused LaBeouf of physical and emotional abuse, which he publicly addressed, admitting to a history of harming himself and others. He stated, “I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt.” LaBeouf subsequently stepped away from acting, seeking help at an inpatient facility in 2021.
Since then, the actor has taken significant steps toward personal growth, including becoming a father and exploring his faith. He converted to Catholicism while preparing for his role in the biopic Padre Pio and has expressed a desire to become a deacon. Reflecting on the transformative impact of his experiences, LaBeouf shared that he owes his progress to facing consequences, saying, “Had she not intervened in my life… I’d either have a really mediocre existence or I’d be dead in full.”
LaBeouf also spoke candidly about the public criticism he’s faced, emphasizing the need to focus on personal relationships and inner growth rather than external validation. He recently re-entered the spotlight with roles in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and the British boxing film Salvable, marking a gradual return to acting.
While LaBeouf continues to deny the allegations in the lawsuit, he has acknowledged the harm caused by his past actions and is working toward reconciliation and self-improvement. The trial involving FKA Twigs is scheduled for September next year, adding a significant chapter to his journey of accountability.
