A tragic incident occurred at Yosemite National Park, where 20-year-old Grace Rohloff, a University of Arizona student, slipped and fell to her death while hiking with her father, Jonathan Rohloff. The father-daughter duo, both experienced hikers, had secured a permit to hike the challenging Half Dome. Despite warnings of a storm, they began their hike on a seemingly clear day. However, the weather took a sudden turn, and a heavy thunderstorm hit as they reached the top of Half Dome.

Grace and Jonathan found themselves stuck on the cabled section of the trail, slowed down by other hikers. As the rain made the path slippery, Grace lost her footing and fell approximately 200 to 300 feet. Jonathan tried to reach her but was unable to due to the steep terrain. Despite his immediate calls for help and support from fellow hikers and park rangers, Grace did not survive the fall, sustaining a fatal head injury.

In the aftermath, Jonathan expressed his grief and called for improved safety measures on the Half Dome trail to prevent similar tragedies. He stressed the need for safer hiking conditions, acknowledging that while such measures cannot bring back his daughter, they could protect future hikers from similar fates. The incident remains under investigation by Yosemite National Park authorities.
